The Sacred Scripture or theWord is Divine Truth

The Word of God is His Divine Truth revealed to us. By it we can know about Him. By living according to it we can be conjoined to Him. By means of it we can receive spiritual light and life.

"The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words." John 14:23-24.

The Word, from beginning to end, is like a parable containing deeper meanings and levels of truth. It contains an internal or spiritual sense within its literal sense. This spiritual sense treats of the Lord, of Heaven and the Church, and of our spiritual life. The spiritual sense does not appear in the sense of the letter but lives within it like the soul in the body. This spiritual sense is within the Word even though the literal sense appears to be treating of historical events, prophecy, psalms, and doctrinal teachings and commandments.

"All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.” Matthew 13:34-35

"And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. But without a parable He did not speak to them." Mark 4:33-34

"And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.... Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Matthew 13:10,11,13

Much of the Word is written like the parables, especially in the prophetic parts such as the books of Daniel and Revelation. But the Lord spoke of a time when He would speak with men more openly.

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come." John 16:12-13

“These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.” John16:25
